Understand what you’re living through and move forward with greater clarity.

Therapy offers time to listen more closely, understand patterns and emotions, and consider what you would like to approach differently.

About Luis

A human relationship comes before any technique.

Luis Medina seated in his therapy space

I am Luis Alberto Medina Barron Brito, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) in Ontario. I offer individual psychotherapy in English and Spanish under ongoing clinical supervision, with a collaborative approach grounded in the person in front of me.

Since 2019, I have worked as a Program Assistant at CAMH in Toronto, within hospital-based mental health. My experience there has included crisis and addictions settings, interdisciplinary collaboration, and facilitating structured recreational music groups across inpatient units in the Crisis and Critical Care Building from 2021 to 2023.

My background in psychology, psychotherapy, mindfulness, contemplative practice, and music therapy informs an integrative way of working with anxiety, mood, grief, relationships, identity, addiction, life transitions, and other concerns that may be important to you.

Thoughtful therapy considers your history, relationships, strengths, hopes, and the areas you would like to improve as part of understanding what brings you here.

My approach

Grounded, human, and integrative.

Sessions are collaborative and adapted to your needs. We can explore the story beneath a pattern, notice what your body and emotions are communicating, and practise tools that support change in everyday life.

01

Humanistic & relational

A genuine therapeutic relationship where you can feel heard, respected, and met without judgment.

02

CBT & Schema Therapy tools

Practical ways to understand how thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and longstanding patterns interact, strengthen coping, and work toward meaningful change.

03

Mindfulness-based therapies

Practising how to observe thoughts, emotions, and sensations without reacting automatically, so you can respond with greater awareness, compassion, and choice.

04

Transpersonal & contemplative

Room to explore meaning, identity, values, spirituality, and the wider context of your experience when relevant to you.

05

Music therapy-informed

Music, imagery, rhythm, or creative reflection may be integrated when clinically appropriate, supported by master’s-level education in Music Therapy.

06

Compassion-focused & body-aware

Gentle attention to emotions, self-criticism, and body-based experience can support greater safety, understanding, and choice.

What we can explore

Support for experiences that can make life feel more difficult.

Individual psychotherapy is available for adolescents aged 16 and over, adults, and seniors. We begin with what is happening in your life and what you would like to understand or change.

Anxiety & overthinking

Worry, perfectionism, uncertainty, or fear that makes it hard to feel present and confident.

Low mood & disconnection

Times when life feels heavy, lonely, without direction, or far from the person you want to be.

Grief & relationships

Support with loss, changing relationships, difficult endings, and the emotions that may follow.

Migration & belonging

The emotional complexity of living between places, languages, cultures, or versions of yourself.

Life transitions

Support through career changes, family shifts, new roles, identity questions, and uncertain next chapters.

Self-worth & regulation

Understanding the inner critic, emotional triggers, and ways to respond with greater care and intention.

Addiction & substance-use concerns

Exploring patterns of use, their impact, and realistic steps toward change at your pace, with attention to biological, psychological, and social factors.

Meaning & spirituality

Respectful exploration of meaning, values, faith, purpose, loss, or spiritual experience—without imposing a belief system.

Other concerns

If your concern is not listed, an initial conversation can help us consider whether my practice is a good fit.

Practical information

A few helpful answers.

How do I know if we are a good fit?

The free 15-minute Meet & Greet gives us a chance to discuss what you are looking for, how I work, and any questions you have. There is no obligation to book a psychotherapy session afterward.

Who do you work with?

I offer individual psychotherapy for people aged 16 and older, including adults and seniors. For clients aged 16 or 17, consent, privacy, and any caregiver involvement are discussed carefully at the beginning.

Can we work in English or Spanish?

Yes. Sessions can take place in English, Spanish, or move naturally between both languages when that helps you express your experience.

Where are sessions available?

Virtual sessions are available to clients who are physically located in Ontario at the time of the appointment. In-person sessions are available in Vaughan, Ontario. The exact office location is provided after booking.

What approaches do you use?

My approach is humanistic, relational, and integrative. Depending on your needs, our work may include tools from CBT and Schema Therapy, mindfulness, compassion-focused and body-aware practices, contemplative or transpersonal exploration, and music therapy-informed reflection. We choose what is helpful collaboratively rather than applying one method to everyone.

What happens in the first session?

Your first psychotherapy session can be the standard 50-minute appointment or an optional 75-minute extended session. We begin understanding what brings you to therapy, relevant history and context, your strengths, and what you hope may change. We also review consent, confidentiality, and practical questions.

How often will we meet, and for how long?

Many people begin weekly or every two weeks, but frequency depends on your needs, goals, availability, and resources. There is no predetermined number of sessions; we review the direction and usefulness of therapy together.

Are sessions covered by insurance?

Psychotherapy is not covered by OHIP. Many extended-health plans reimburse services from a Registered Psychotherapist, but each plan is different. Please ask your insurer whether services from a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) are covered. A receipt is provided for you to submit.

What is the cancellation policy?

At least 24 hours’ notice is requested to cancel or reschedule. The full session fee may be charged for late cancellations or missed appointments, with genuine emergencies considered individually. The complete policy is reviewed before therapy begins.

Is psychotherapy confidential?

Yes. Your privacy is protected within legal and professional limits. These limits—including situations involving serious risk of harm, child protection, or a legal requirement—are explained during informed consent before therapy begins.

Can we explore spirituality or questions of meaning?

Yes, when these are important to you. Therapy can offer a respectful space to explore values, faith, purpose, loss, identity, or spiritual experience without assuming or imposing any belief system.

Is this a crisis service?

No. This practice does not provide emergency or crisis response. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. In Canada, call or text 988 for suicide crisis support.
